Since its invention in 1963, the flavor of Sunny D has confounded the American public. Its makers call it “orange flavored citrus punch with other natural flavors,” but that doesn’t quite do justice to the industrial weirdness of the drink whose defining feature is that it’s not the purple stuff.
But what is it, exactly? Twitter user @stfububz sparked a fervent debate this week when they resurfaced an old Reddit thread that Sunny D “taste like someone made a bet that they could make orange juice without oranges.” This, however, is not the only thing that people think Sunny D tastes like. And somehow, these ideas all seem right:
