A Bomb Was Sent to Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Grill

Early this morning, New York police received a call about a suspicious package sent to Robert De Niro’s restaurant Tribeca Grill. The package contained a pipe bomb and was addressed to De Niro, whose Tribeca Productions shares the restaurant’s address. Officials say the packaging was similar to the manila envelopes containing bombs sent to CNN, George Soros, and prominent members of the Democratic leadership. A supporter of the Democratic Party, De Niro has openly criticized Trump, saying he’s “so blatantly stupid” and, onstage at the Tony’s, “fuck Trump.”

The restaurant was not open when the package was delivered, and it was sent to a bomb-testing facility. Yesterday, the Time Warner Center was evacuated because of the bomb sent to CNN. The building is home to a Whole Foods and restaurants like Masa and Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery and Per Se. De Niro owns Tribeca with the restaurateur Drew Nieporent, with whom he also has the global sushi chain Nobu. In an email to Grub, Nieporent says that “police handled it well” and that the restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner today.
