Robert De Niro Says Trump Is Banned From All Nobu Restaurants

Prominent restaurateur Robert De Niro — perhaps you’ve also seen him in a few movies? — isn’t exactly quiet about the animosity he feels toward President Trump. Twice in the past month alone, he’s gone on Saturday Night Live to antagonize the Oval Office’s occupant as a pretend Robert Mueller. But now it seems the Nobu co-owner has thrown down the (granted, very hypothetical) gauntlet with the Daily Mail: POTUS isn’t welcome at any of his and chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s three dozen locations. The news site caught De Niro at the grand opening of their latest eatery, part of a new Nobu resort in Spain’s Marbella, and he reportedly “insisted he would never let Trump into any of the Nobu restaurants.”

De Niro’s unwillingness to share a dining room apparently extends even beyond the considerable reach of Nobu’s real estate: He supposedly also said of Trump, “I don’t care what he likes. If he walked into a restaurant I was in, I’d walk out.”

Joining De Niro for the Marbella opening was chef Matsuhisa himself, who seems to have tried striking a more diplomatic tone with the Daily Mail after hearing his partner’s diatribe: “It’s my dream for Trump to sit next to Bob. To make them sushi!” Seems it could be awkward, but, really, the chances of the well-done-burger- and ketchup-loving President showing up for a raw-fish feast at Nobu has about the same likelihood of happening as Trump actually “draining the swamp.”
