Here Are the 2018 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Award Semifinalists

Gather around, chefs. The James Beard Foundation has announced the semifinalists for its annual restaurant and chef awards. Consider these lists the prelims: The lists will be trimmed down to a more selective group of finalists, but making it to the first round is an honor itself.

Noteworthy nominees from New York include Cote and Empellón Midtown for Best New Restaurant, Flora Bar’s Natasha Pickowicz for Outstanding Pastry Chef, King’s Clare de Boer for Rising Star Chef of the Year, and Dumpling Galaxy’s Helen You for Best Chef: New York City. Check out the full list below, and note that finalists will be announced on March 14, while the awards will take place in Chicago on May 7.
