A Long Island Restaurant Is Throwing an ‘LIRR Sucks Party’ for Disgruntled Commuters

It wouldn’t be unreasonable, say, for residents of a “global power city” — one that likes to think of itself as the center of the world, no less — to expect their public transportation to work. Or so Long Island Rail Road riders would think. On Wednesday, the commuter rail service experienced such a crush of problems that police reportedly blocked access to areas of Penn Station. Almost 80 trains were canceled during rush hour last night, the third straight night of snarled service, creating a nightmare for commuters. (As if being in Penn Station isn’t bad enough.)

So, in a show of solidarity, Long Island’s Milleridge Inn will give a free cocktail to anyone who presents an LIRR ticket at the restaurant today. The Inn is in Jericho, and it’s open until 9 p.m., so if you catch a train now, you might be able to get out there before it’s too late.
