Starbucks has announced that, beginning March 16, it will tempt fate by adding new spring-themed cups into its rotation. As you can see, the minimalist, pastel theme that the company chose encourages people to decorate their own cups with all sorts of doodles. See? Look how happy they are!
Of course, this is a terrible idea. Asking the public to partake in any kind of creative endeavor is a recipe for disaster. People simply cannot be trusted with a blank canvas. (Remember the very XXX-rated McDonald’s cups?) Spring is, of course, the season of fresh starts and rebirth; but at Starbucks this year, it will also probably be a season filled with doodles of … well, maybe it’s best not to give anyone any ideas.
