A Restaurant Customer Left a $900 Tip for Her Pregnant Server

An Arizona server and bartender who’s expecting her first child says she broke down in tears this past weekend after a customer left her a 1,475 percent tip on, of all things, a takeout order. Sarah Clark, who’s in her seventh year at the Pita Jungle in Phoenix, discovered the woman had left the exceptionally generous tip ($900) on her $61.30 bill after leaving with her food on Saturday.

Clark is due January 8, and she tells KTVK that her fiancé, who also works in the restaurant industry, is about to be off so he can recover from leg surgery scheduled for this week. “You always hear about these happening, but you never expect to be the recipient of it,” she says. “It’s a huge, huge help for me and my family.”

As it turns out, the customer is a regular who’s also pregnant, and Clark says they’ve chatted before about the wonders of being with child. The woman penned a note on the bill that said: “This is God’s money — he gave it to us so we could give it to you. God bless.”

“I don’t know if she really understands how much this is going to help us this season,” Clark explains, adding that the combination of her upcoming maternity leave and her fiancé recouping means they’re “not going to be making any income” and had been bracing for a rough start to 2017.
