Bareburger is one of New York’s more successful homegrown burger chains, with 44 locations around the country and abroad in just seven years. Now, that team will explore other areas of its meaty inclinations and give old-fashioned barbecue a spin with Salt & Bone. The restaurant will open next year in the Astoria space where the Bareburger team previously operated the short-lived Burnside Biscuits, a Southern-themed restaurant that had a fried-chicken bent. New York’s barbecue epicenter might be in Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan, but Salt & Bone will still have some local competition in John Brown Smokehouse and its forthcoming sibling restaurant Mothership Meat Company, which is headed to Astoria.
