The “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list is certainly not without its detractors, but it’s nonetheless a pretty big deal for fancy tasting tables and the globe-trotting gastronomes who frequent them. Today in New York, the 2016 results were announced: Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana nabbed the top honors for the first time, knocking El Celler de Can Roca down to No. 2. Some expected Noma to take the cake because it’s in its final year at its original location, but the restaurant fell down to No. 5, and chef René Redzepi wasn’t present. It was, though, a big night for a couple of New York favorites: Eleven Madison Park took home the bronze, while food-world darling Estela climbed a whopping 46 spots out of the runners-up bracket to land at No. 44.
