Come March, a sushi dinner at Masa will cost a whopping $595 per person — a $145 increase from the previous charge of $450. The new price includes gratuity, at least, but with drinks and tax, a meal for two at the restaurant becomes even more insanely expensive. Masa’s director of operations tells Eater’s Ryan Sutton that the increase also takes “new staff wages” and “the considerable escalation in the costs of operating a restaurant in NYC” into account — a reality all New York restaurants, casual and super-fancy, are facing.
