As he does every year, New York’s restaurant critic Adam Platt closed out 2015 with his roundup of the city’s best new restaurants and trends. There was a lot to love. There were also a lot of aspects of the dining scene that have seen better days, and in the third, and newest, episode of the Grub Street Podcast Platt and Grub editor Alan Sytsma debate exactly those. Why are there so many avocado-centric dishes served in bowls? Do we need more courses that fill entire dining rooms in clouds of smoke? Is the internet to blame for every single overhyped craze out there?
