David Burke Fishtail (née Fishtail by David Burke), the Upper East Side seafood restaurant opened by the eponymous chef in 2008, will close its doors on Saturday, January 16. According to a statement provided by a representative, the David Burke Group and its landlord were not able to come to terms on a lease. The closing is the third for the restaurant group, which has a somewhat murky relationship with its namesake, in less then a year. Last April, David Burke Townhouse was shuttered permanently after being closed for a year for renovations — at the time, a representative told Eater they were looking to reopen late last year — and New Jersey’s David Burke Fromagerie, a 43-year-old restaurant the chef worked at early in his career and purchased in 2006, closed in October. These closures have, coincidentally or not, followed Burke’s relinquishing of day-to-day operations duties in May 2014. Though the chef is still affiliated with the group, he is now a partner in ESquared Hospitality, operators of vegan hit by CHLOE and the various BLT incarnations.
