Two employees at a Colorado Wendy’s no longer have jobs after sticking a note with a bunch of racist slurs into a kids’-meal toy last week. The note “featured the ‘n’ word, as well as other derogatory sayings,” KDVR reports, but it gets worse — the black girl who opened the toy up didn’t know what the slurs meant, so her mother had to give an impromptu vocabulary lesson.

The words were apparently scrawled onto a deck of playing cards and slipped in with her toy. A spokesperson for Wendy’s stresses they’re taking the situation “very seriously” and that they immediately reached out to the girl’s family, who “accepted our apology.” That might be news to the girl’s mother, Manige Osowski, though. She spent Tuesday protesting outside the Colorado store.
