Underwest Donuts Adds a New Flavor to Its All-Star Repertoire

The Westside Highway Car Wash is actually home to a doughnut shop called Underwest, where former Chanterelle chef Scott Levine churns out fantastic cake-style doughnuts (including a beloved halva flavor). On Friday, he’ll debut a brand-new option — perhaps the shop’s simplest flavor yet, but there’s brilliance in restraint.

The “Carwash” is the platonic ideal of a plain, glazed doughnut: It features a striped, multi-colored glaze (made with all-natural food coloring), paying homage to the flashy signs and rainbow sprays associated with a carwash experience. The flavor is subtle and understated — a nice contrast to splashier varieties like Espresso Bean and Coco Raspberry. And that’s not all the exciting news: Grub hears that Underwest is hard at work on a seasonal ice-cream doughnut sandwich, which will launch in the coming weeks.
