To the very short list of things that make Grant Achatz look uncoordinated, add watching a man put together a hot dog with a machine more commonly seen, you know, dredging rivers and demolishing buildings. In an ad for “new and improved” hot dogs at Statoil gas stations, Finnish excavator operator Juha-Pekki Perämäki places a bun on a plate, carefully splits it open, and fills it with a wiener, a leaf of lettuce (again: Finland), sliced onion, and a well-controlled squirt of ketchup … all while his friend stands by in safety goggles waiting to have the hot dog inserted into his mouth.
It’s incredibly, impressively precise, but Grub is holding out for Statoil’s sashimi prepared by a wrecking ball.
