Baltimore’s first Shake Shack will open on February 16. That same day, the city’s McDonald’s locations will begin selling a limited-edition Filet-O-Fish sandwich featuring tartar sauce spiked with Old Bay, a.k.a. the region’s all-time favorite food seasoning. Some may see the timing as a mere coincidence. Yet others will recognize this for what it really is: a gauntlet thrown.
So it’s time to choose sides, Charm City residents. Local Shackburgers and a special concrete flavor called “Salty Balty,” or fish sandwiches of questionable pedigree with some spiced sauce on top? You have until Monday to decide.
