L’Ecole at the International Culinary Center Will Close This Fall

Here’s a bit of sad news: L’Ecole, the outstanding restaurant attached to the International Culinary Center in Soho, will serve its last meal in November. An email circulated to former students says that the lease is expiring and the school will transition to a program that sees students work paid, 200-hour externships in local kitchens, in a model that is presumably similar to the one deployed by the Culinary Institute of America (which operates a number of its own restaurants as well). It’s a progressive move for ICC, but a loss for fans of the restaurant, which frequently gets menu input from chefs like Dan Barber and has even picked up a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide.
