Platt: ‘Americans Are Addicted to Tipping’

Right after making the case in print that the city’s tip-based economy has some issues, New York’s restaurant critic Adam Platt went on CBS This Morning to talk about the great big gratuity experiment, in which he endeavored to give money based on merit, not obligation. Here, Platt explains his exploratory efforts and findings. “Mostly we do it because we’re in this zombielike haze,” he says.
