The fall New York Times Magazine Food Issue comes out this weekend, and a few web exclusives, like this must-watch video by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jeffrey Blitz, have already gone up. It features six P.S. 295 second-graders trying to power through the $220 tasting menu at Daniel. The pint-size first-timers are properly suspicious of the whole white-tablecloth affair, openly grousing about the “really dry” smoked paprika–cured hamachi, nearly rioting over the caviar, and rejecting squash ravioli that “tastes like soap.” They all pretty much go nuts over the snapper, though. “What I liked about the fish was the scales,” exclaims one, while another raves about the fried broccoli on the side.
