West Village restaurant DiFiore Marquet Café apparently folded a few weeks ago. There’s been no official announcement regarding the closure, but a worker posted a message to Facebook saying the café and bakery was out of business. DiFiore Marquet Café had been a fixture of East 12th Street for 22 years, counting an eclectic mix of NYU academics, movie stars, writers, and blue-collar types among its clientele, and proprietor Celeste DiFiore was once called “the Elaine of the downtown, Village cohort.” [Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York]
