The owners of Boots & Saddle say a recent rent hike of “thousands of dollars” has made operations at their four decades old West Village gay bar untenable, and that the establishment will soon close. Managing owner Rob Ziegler and founder Ron Silver say they are planning to move the bar, which was recently refurbished, somewhere else in the neighborhood, but so far they haven’t found an appropriate space that also sits well with CB2 Manhattan. The board’s licensing committee objected to the partners’ plan to move into a former Thai restaurant at 37 Barrow Street last month, after neighbors voiced concerns about added traffic and potential noise.
