Last night, the second devastating restaurant blaze this week caved in the entire roof at Helen’s, the famous stop for sweets founded 64 years ago by Helen and Larry Mugnai in Machias, Maine. Firefighters responded to the call around 1:45 a.m., but according to reports, the fire grew too big to control, and teams have had to remain at the site all morning to spray down the area with foam. In a message posted to Facebook, the restaurant said that thankfully, no one was inside. Helen’s venerated pies are beloved by Martha Stewart and were given top honors by Life.
