A server working the late shift at a Raleigh Waffle House was told she wouldn’t be allowed to keep the $1,000 tip a customer left in May. The patron, a Raleigh businessman who wishes to remain anonymous, left the generous amount for 26-year-old Shaina Brown, along with a $500 bonus for a “haggard-looking woman at a table nearby,” the News Observer reports, but automatically refunding large tips is part of the chain’s regular protocol, so Brown got nothing. After the reporter investigated and tracked down the businessman, however, he offered to write Brown a personal check, so the story has somewhat of a happy ending. [News Observer]
