Defrauded Couples Call ReBar Owner’s Payback Pledge a ‘Sham’

DNAinfo hears from couples whose wedding-party deposits were stolen by Jason Stevens, the owner of reBar in Dumbo, who last week made an arrangement to pay back more than $1 million to mitigate the grand-larceny and tax-fraud charges he faces. Stevens pleaded guilty in Brooklyn Supreme Court last week and faces up to ten years in jail. Couples say that while the payback deal may seem sweet, Stevens doesn’t actually have any money, and the deal would only go into effect if Stevens “came into money” in the future. “I don’t think we’re getting a penny back from this man,” says Christian Pascarella, a former reBar customer who lost $17,000.
