Akiko Thurnauer will close Family Recipe, her tiny, 30-seat Lower East Side restaurant, after service on Sunday. The restaurant, which showcases Thurnauer’s menu of Japanese-leaning small plates, like Heritage pork-belly buns and fried chicken wings with yuzu honey-mustard, opened in September of 2011 and received a “Bib Gourmand” nod from the Michelin guide for two consecutive years. It’s been a particularly bad time for neighborhood restaurants that specialize in deeply personal cuisine, as Times writer Jeff Gordinier points out, like Sorella and wd~50. On Facebook, Family Recipe writes that it has been an “amazing journey,” adding that all wine will be half-price for the restaurant’s final week. [Family Recipe/Twitter, Related]
