Next month the iconic Long Island-based Entenmann’s will close its 53-year-old Bay Shore bakery. As announced previously, 178 of its 265 on-site workers will lose their jobs, and while goods like coffee cakes, lemon loaves, doughnut holes known as Pop ‘Ems, and various frosted cakes will still be available, parent company Bimbo Bakeries USA says “they will be baked at other plants.” The company was founded in 1898 and has been operating out of the South Shore town since 1905. Entenmann’s will continue to base its marketing division in Bay Shore. [NYT, Earlier]
