Brooklyn Monkey, the would-be Dumbo doppelgänger to reality television star Big Ang’s Staten Island establishment Drunken Monkey, was poised to ensnare all of the yuppies and hipsters of Dumbo with Mason-jar margaritas and a festive, clublike environment when it opened last month. But sometimes we fly too close to the sun, and Brooklyn Monkey has apparently shut down, though perhaps not for good. “We’re having some little paper problems there, but it’s not closing,” says Ang herself. The third-floor space hasn’t had an active liquor license for more than a decade, though, which really qualifies along the lines of big “paper problems.” Otherwise, sources say “financial setbacks” are to blame for the closure.
