Police in Louisville arrested Ming Wen Chen last week and charged him and his wife with trafficking undocumented workers for their Golden Palace Buffet. According to arrest records, “the couple forced them to work long hours and gave them little freedom.” Their captives — the number of whom hasn’t yet been released — allegedly did 12-hour shifts six days a week and slept in the couple’s basement in makeshift beds, with one shared bathroom; females couldn’t come out unless Chen accompanied them. Detectives say some of these workers “didn’t even know what city they were in.” [WLKY]
