Sad news for the guys at the 13th Police Precinct and also lovers of excellent sandwiches: Defonte’s is closing its Gramercy location next Saturday. The Third Avenue outpost where the famed Red Hook original has been open for the past five years has been snatched up by a developer, and an employee tells Eater that new plans for the building won’t include the restaurant. The Red Hook original (since 1922) remains open, of course, and you should visit, but you may as well get over to Gramercy and snag a Nicky Special just for the hell of it. [Eater]
