If all goes as planned, the 2,500-square-foot Dairy Queen at 54 West 14th Street near Union Square will open on May 27 29. The ice cream chain’s first Manhattan location has 100 seats spread over two floors, and since it’s a “Grill & Chill” location, there will be burgers and sandwiches, not to mention the entire Orange Julius line. (In a possible student-besting-the-master sort of situation, it’ll be interesting to see how Christina Tosi’s new Mandarin-orange creamsicle soft-serve, one of five new Momofuku Milk bar flavors, stacks up against the original Orange Julius.) Also of note: In addition to all the cakes, cones, cups, and mix-ins, Dairy Queen will serve its Big Apple Blizzard, described as a “blend of real, diced Granny Smith apples in pie filling with cinnamon pie pieces blended with DQ vanilla soft serve and topped with whipped topping and cinnamon.” Update: Due to a slight delay, the DQ officially debuts May 29.
