It’s turning out to be something of a sad springtime for some of New York’s well-regarded vegan hangouts: A reported rent hike is to blame for the impending shutter of Café Blossom on Columbus Avenue, which happens next Monday, May 12. While the owners of the seven-year-old restaurant say in a Facebook post that unspecified “building management issues beyond our control” are behind the closure, a source tells West Side Rag that the landlord recently “more than doubled” the rent. Blossom’s proprietors, who operate three other restaurants, write that they are scouting other spaces on the Upper West Side and may relocate. [Gothamist]
