Bedford + Bowery confirms that the Spotted Pig and John Dory restaurateurs are indeed planning a café and wine bar for the former San Loco space on Avenue A. Ken Friedman, who lives in the neighborhood, tells the blog that he and Bloomfield are not planning to serve “expensive food or upscale cocktails,” but a menu of things like a Cubano with idiazabal, and Indian pickle-and-cheddar sandwiches. “We can experiment with all the ideas we’ve been thinking about in the East Village,” says Friedman, “starting with homemade pastries in the morning and great coffee, and April’s always wanted to open a sandwich shop. And we’ve always wanted to do a great wine bar, so we thought let’s do them all!” [Bedford + Bowery, Related]
