The third location of the Babbo and Eataly restaurateur’s Tarry Lodge, which serves a menu of pizza, pasta, and wine by the glass in a casual setting, will land at 278 Park Street in New Haven, in a long-vacant building where Yale University holds the long-term lease. Bastianich and Batali opened their first Tarry Lodge in Port Chester in 2008, with Andy Nusser and Nancy Selzer running the show. A second restaurant opened in Westport, Connecticut, in the summer of 2011. The news may not come as much of surprise, especially now that everyone from Michael White to Jean-Georges Vongerichten has been looking outside the greater metropolitan as of late. What may be most interesting to see is how Tarry Lodge’s signature clam pizza, which is served with garlic and oregano in Port Chester and Westport, fares in a town that’s fiercely loyal to the original served at Frank Pepe’s.
