Michael Kass, a 41-year-old Brooklyn resident with Type 2 diabetes, says he was kicked out of the Pavilion Theater on Sunday after he tried to bring a carton of strawberries into a screening of Divergent. Management, presumably on the lookout for profit-slashing contraband brought in by moviegoers, allegedly had Kass removed after he refused to give up the fruit, and he tells the Village Voice he’s “100 percent sure” it was NYPD officers who escorted him from the premises. “I was irate. In a place like Park Slope, it’s culturally insensitive,” he tells the Post. “I’m speaking out because I love movies, and I felt for a long time that more theaters should offer healthy snacks.” [Daily Intelligencer]
