George Washington University is giving chef and D.C. resident José Andrés the commencement stage in May to dispense life wisdom to the Class of 2014. (Maybe best for that half-hour, Chef, to table talk of everyone’s promising future in fast-food.) While it’s true he’s a name-recognition underdog next to 2013 dynamo Kerry Washington), the Spanish-born Andrés is, as GWU’s president says, the guy who trained under Ferran Adrià at elBulli, held court at Harvard, and even does some TV is “multifaceted” and right for the job. Since 2012, he’s also been something of a big man on campus, so some grads will likely be his former students. [GWU]
