Faith Murray, who attends a day-care program in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, made the big mistake of bringing a “processed cheese sandwich in a sealed ziplock [sic] bag” onto the premises last week. Because the facility has a strict policy designed to protect toddlers with food allergies, the 2-year-old was penalized with a three-day dairy-related suspension. (It could have been worse, the Ottawa Sun reports: Bringing unauthorized nuts into day care is grounds for “immediate termination.”) Faith seems a little unfazed by the development, but her dad, who admits that administrators made the policy known in a newsletter, is upset about the penalty. “They freaked out. If I got a warning, I’d admit my mistake and move on,” he says. [Ottawa Sun via Delish]
