Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen opens late this summer, right next to Dolly Parton’s Tennessee theme park, Dollywood, which is also in the company of Jimmy Buffet’s newest Margaritaville Hotel and a big Build-A-Bear. All that make-believe seems appropriate: Neither the press release about the new endeavor nor any of the various posts announcing the restaurant make mention or refer to any of the food Deen and her cohorts will serve from the “Family Kitchen.” Coming from someone who claims she really just wants to be known as a chef, this all seems to be something of a bad sign.
