Manhattan’s northernmost neighborhood has escaped the grasp of national chains for a long time, but now that Starbucks has opened at Dyckman Street and Broadway, some worry that the floodgates have opened: “Chipotle and some local Asian fusion restaurants” are reportedly looking at spaces, and meanwhile, Park View Restaurant owner Gus Anton is finding it’s hard to compete with the brand recognition that comes along with Starbucks, even though he’s stepped up his coffee and pastries game. “We don’t want what happened to the Upper West Side to happen to us,” a neighbor tells Crain’s.
