Yo La Tengo, Hüsker Dü, and Nirvana are just a few of the thousands of acts that once took the stage at Maxwell’s, which closed last year. The site of the famed Hoboken club will next become a “family restaurant specializing in thin-crust artisanal pizza,” the Jersey Journal reports. While some had hoped that the brief resurrection late last summer, when Justin Timberlake filmed a commercial for Target at Maxwell’s, meant that the club would somehow rock on, live music appears to not be part of the new owners’ plans. Evan Dean and Pete Carr say they’re keeping the name, but will convert Maxwell’s venerated old backroom into a dining room. “Hoboken is changing, and it’s time for Maxwell’s to change,” Dean says.
