Bowery Boogie reports that New York State Liquor Authority officials have rejected the liquor license application filed by the operators of incoming Manhattan outpost of Williamsburg chicken-and-waffles spot Sweet Chick, which was set to open in the fabled old Max Fish space at 178 Ludlow Street. John Seymour and Sam Saleh, who signed the lease in October, had argued that the Max Fish liquor license was “grandfathered” and predated the 500-foot rule, which seeks to limit liquor licenses in saturated areas. Neighborhood advocacy group LES Dwellers is calling this one a victory. [BB, Earlier, Related]
