New Year’s Eve at the NoMad; Peppe Rosso Social and Toloache Thompson Open

The NoMad will host a New Year’s Eve cocktail party with a live band and D.J., passed canapés, food stations, and plenty of cocktails and Champagne. The “black-tie-ish” event starts at 9:30 p.m. and will last until 2 a.m.; tickets are $325 per person and can only be made online (select 9:30 p.m. reservation time). • The team behind Pepe Rosso to Go has opened a 42-seat restaurant called Pepe Rosso Social, on the corner of Mott and Broome Streets. The menu is loaded with Italian classics like chicken Milanese, homemade pappardelle with oxtail ragu, and Nutella Tiramisu. The restaurant is open from lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. • Tonight, Julian Medina, the chef and owner of restaurants like Coppelia and Yerba Buena, will open his seventh restaurant, Toloache Thompson, a West Village outpost of his Mexican chainlet. The 90-seat restaurant is spread across two floors and will serve up over 100 varieties of tequila alongside a menu that includes a crab tostada with uni, avocado, and peanut salsa. [Grub Street]

City Grit is hosting its first City Spotlight series in 2014, where it will highlight four cities and some of their most talented chefs. First up is Philadelphia’s Michael Solomonov of Zahav and Federal Donuts, who will take over the kitchen on January 19 at 7:30 p.m. Each dinner is $85 per person; the full schedule and tickets can be found online. • Bedford + Bowery checked in with Empire Biscuit to see how that whole 24-hour thing was going, and learned that the restaurant is offering a biscuit happy hour of sorts from 5 to 7 a.m on weekdays. [Bedford + Bowery]

• On Christmas Eve, Back Forty West will serve up a Chinese banquet meal featuring dishes like shrimp dumplings, barbecue fried rice, and steamed buns with star anise pork with classic New York cheesecake and chocolate babka for dessert. There will also be Champagne by the glass, pomegranate mai tais, and Yuzu Hemingways. Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased here. [Grub Street]

• The twelfth annual Big Apple Barbeque Block Party is returning to Madison Square Park on June 7 and 8, featuring massive amounts of pulled pork, sausage links, and whole hogs cooked on site by the nation’s top pitmasters. The organizers are offering a special holiday edition FastPass for $125 that guarantees exclusive access to express lines and is valid for both days. The pass goes on sale December 16, at 2 p.m., and can be purchased here. [Grub Street]

Vinegar Hill House will also host a New Year’s Eve celebration with seatings at 7 and 9 p.m. The five-course dinner, which also includes a Champagne toast, is $95 per person and includes dishes such as lentil-and-foie-gras salad. [Grub Street]
