The last of the seven KFCs in Syria has closed, citing supply problems amid the country’s two-and-a-half-year civil war. Given U.S. sanctions against Syria, increased violence, and poverty levels that make a KFC meal too expensive for most, it’s amazing that the fast-food restaurant — the first American chain to come to Syria, in 2006 — lasted this long.
