Writer John Egerton, who died yesterday at the age of 78, was integral to the formation of the Southern Foodways Alliance and was the author of southern-cooking classic Southern Food: At Home, on the Road, in History. Egerton’s writings on “Southern food and race gave powerful voice to the complexities of the American South,” notes the Times-Picayune’s Brett Anderson. Elsewhere, Egerton is remembered in the Washington Post, John T. Edge shares his story in the Times, and the SFA, which has put up a video and a tribute, will be honoring Egerton’s life and work in the days ahead. [Times-Picayune, WaPo]
