Questlove’s Hybird Closes in Chelsea Market

Philadelphia-based restaurateur Stephen Starr and Questlove collaborated to open Hybird, a tiny shop with outsized fried-chicken-drumstick dreams, back in May. Though some balked at prices ($4 per piece) and wacky side-order choices (biscuits and … truffle-deviled-egg dumplings?), the place had its fans, and the ultra-crunchy main event ended up on the Underground Gourmet’s 2013 Cheap Eats list. There was even talk of franchises. But all of that seems to be hushed now: Eater NY reports that Hybird has gone under, and the Chelsea Market space is now just an empty stall with papered-over menu boards. We’ve put a line out to reps for Quest and Starr for more information and to see if Hybird is fried for good, or if it may pop up somewhere else in the future. [Eater NY, Earlier, Related]
