NYC’s First 100 Montaditos Opens Friday

In April we learned that Spanish chain 100 Montaditos would replace the venerated old Pizza Box at 176 Bleecker Street in the West Village. Plans for a Ludlow Street shop were revealed a few weeks later, prompting rumors of a freaky Eurosandwich takeover. This Friday, anyone intrigued by the distinctly Spanish combination of orange soda and/or red wine or the idea of cheap, spartan sandwiches made with things like Serrano ham, manchego, and almond cream will be able to check out this place in person. The price is certainly right: Each of the menu’s 100 sandwiches runs between $1 and $2.50 and beer is $4, then, on Wednesdays, sandwiches drop to a flat $1, while prices for beer and wine drop to a flat $2. Our friends over at Bedford + Bowery got an early look at the sangria by the mug and “thumb-sized” montaditos. [Bedford + Bowery, Earlier]
