The theft last weekend of 600 pumpkins from a Long Island farm raises questions: How did the thieves manage to abscond with hundreds of unwieldy gourds with zero witnesses? Why? And whatever will they do with all of those pumpkins? Lolly Rottkamp, owner of Fox Hollow Farm, suspects an inside job, telling Newsday that the pumpkin field was hidden from the streets. “Somebody’s on a rampage,” she said, citing other farm-stand robberies in the area. The pumpkins are apparently worth $4,200, and once they hit the gourd black market we imagine they’ll be impossible to trace. Be careful where you source your jack-o’-lantern. [Independent]
