At this weekend’s Oscars of Street Food, 20-year-old Red Hook staple El Olomega won the coveted Vendy Cup for its authentic Salvadoran pupusas. Other winners include Itizy Ice Cream for Best Dessert, Khao Man Gai NY for Best Market Vendor, Home by the Range for Best of New Jersey, Nuchas for Rookie of the Year, and Luke’s Lobster for the People’s Taste Award. Above all, the event benefited the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center, an organization that provides advocacy and legal services to over 1,500 vendors. Good work, folks. [Earlier]
