Blintzes and smoked salmon around the corner.
Looks like the appearance of that mysterious-sounding “Russ and Daughters Café” on this month’s CB3 agenda wasn’t so much a red herring or misprint as it was just a delicious, delicately seasoned smoked herring from the Lower East Side old-timer — bagels and lox on the side. The Times finds out that Niki Russ Federman and Josh Russ Tupper are opening a 65-seat café at 127 Orchard Street in February that will serve all of the appetizing shop’s famous foods in a brand-new setting. Not coincidentally, Russ & Daughters will also celebrate its 100th birthday on Houston Street next year. [NYT, Earlier]
