Over the weekend, a Grub Street reader pointed out that the compact Orchard Street restaurant Zucco: Le French Diner has seemingly been shuttered for a few weeks, and today Bowery Boogie also notices the restaurant’s security gate is down and behind it, its front door is slightly ajar. There are no signs indicating a permanent closure at Zucco’s, but the blog notes it’s “no doubt being pushed to the turnbuckle by the influx of high-rise development around its doorstep.” The restaurant’s owner and namesake died of a heart attack on the sidewalk outside the diner in 2010, but the restaurant continued on and honored his memory.
