Brooklyn’s raw-bar fans were likely pretty jazzed last month to find out that a franchised location of Grand Central Oyster bar is opening in the old Fornino space on Fifth Avenue, but some were left wondering how, if any, aspects of the Guastavino-tiled vaulted ceilings in the original may find their way into Park Slope. Sure, there’s a nod to the almost benthic charm of Grand Central Terminal’s basement in the restaurant’s Tokyo branch, but will that play in the heart of brownstone Brooklyn? Yes, it seems, at least on the façade. Here’s Park Slope notes the new one’s got some exterior tiled arches, pointing to an architectural rendering the restaurant’s owners have put up in the front window as a taste of what’s to come, along with a “late fall” estimated opening date.
